2022-2023 Key International Foundation Projects
For the 2022-2023 academic year beginning in July 2022, KEY International has
funded scholarships for 2,450 low-income children from fourteen schools in
Chennai. Each of these children have received an average scholarship of about $50
this year, which covers a substantial portion of their annual tuition fees. The total
funding from KEY International this year for all these children will be $120,000
(approximately Indian Rupees INR 10,000,000). Details of the 14 schools are
given below.
For all the schools, the principal, and teachers at each school (with my approval)
have selected children based on their academic performance and their low-income
status. The students must maintain a minimum level of academic performance
(equivalent to maintaining an average of 'B' in the US) to continue receiving the
scholarship till they finish their high school.
For all 14 schools, twenty-five children from each class starting the 6th grade to
the 12 th grade were selected based on their academic performance and their low-
income status for a total of 175 students in each school. The students have returned
to school this year because of the improving Covid situation in Chennai.
Key International acknowledges the help of Dr. Koen van Rompay, (the founder of
www.sayaha.org) in facilitating the awarding of the scholarships. These
scholarships will help the students complete their high school enabling them to
lead more fulfilling and productive lives. All these children receiving scholarships
come from families whose average family monthly income is about $200.
The web page www.keyinternational.org, has details of the projects for the
previous years. The CPR Foundation (cprfoundation.org) will continue to
monitor the progress of the children from eleven schools, and the remaining three
schools will be monitored by the Guild of Service-Central.
Key International has also supported through the Vanavil Trust a sum of $1,000 to
fund the education of children in a primary school in Nagapattinam, Tamil Nadu,
India.
Since the Covid situation in India is much better this year, I plan to travel and
spend a couple of months there exploring the addition of more children and schools
to the scholarship program.

children, KEY International has been able to provide scholarship support to
