2021

2021-2022 Key International Foundation Projects

For the 2021-2022 academic year beginning in July 2021, KEY International has funded scholarships for
1,375 low-income children from fourteen schools in Chennai. All these children have received an average scholarship of about $40 this year, which covers a substantial portion of their annual tuition fees. The total funding from KEY International this year for all these children will be $55,000. Details of the 14 schools are given in the webpage www.keyinternational.org under the tab

For all the schools the principal and teachers at each school with my approval have selected twenty-five children from each class (from 6th grade to 12th grade) based on their academic performance and their low-income status. The students must maintain a minimum level of academic performance (equivalent to maintaining an average of 'B' in the US) to continue receiving the scholarship till they finish their high school.

For six of the 14 schools, twenty-five children from each class starting the 6th grade to the 12th grade were selected based on their academic performance and their low-income status for a total of 175 students in each school. For five other schools, 25 students have been selected for each 6th and 7th grades (for 50 students in each school), and for the new three schools added this year 25 students from each school have been added from the 6th grade.

Key International acknowledges the help of Dr. Koen van Rompay, (the founder of  www.sayaha.org) in facilitating the awarding of the scholarships. These scholarships will help the students complete their high school enabling them to lead more fulfilling and productive lives. All these children receiving scholarships come from families whose average family monthly income is about $120.

The CPR Foundation under the leadership of Dr. Nanditha Krishna (cprfoundation.org) will continue to monitor the progress of the children from eleven schools, and the remaining three schools will be monitored by the Guild of Service-Central.
Unfortunately, because of the pandemic situation in India no in-class sessions have been conducted at the schools. Also, since most of these children have little or no access to computers, they also had no opportunity for online learning. The Chennai government organized a public educational TV station that provided instruction to these children. Hopefully, if the pandemic situation improves in India, I may be able to visit there in late 2022 or early 2023 and possibly add new schools.
Key International has also supported through the Vanavil Trust a sum of $1,000 to fund the education of children in a primary school in Nagapattinam, Tamil Nadu, India.

KEY International Foundation would appreciate any help from you to support and expand our projects to help educate the poor children. You can donate by sending a check (payable to Key International Foundation) should be sent to Tejas Batavia, 4286 Astor Hollow Street, San Ramon, CA 94582-4877), or by using your credit card or with Pay Pal.

Please visit the webpage www.keyinternational.org and click on the donate tab for more information. Please note that 100 percent of your donation will go towards helping these low-income children (the Board of Directors of KEY International covers the very low administrative costs of the organization). KEY International Foundation is classified as a Public Charity under Section 501(3) (c) of the IRS code. All donations to KEY International continue to be tax deductible as per IRS rules.

Thanks to your generosity during the last 19 years in improving the lives of these children, KEY International has been able to provide scholarship support to low-income children for 7,805 ‘scholarship years’ (about 80% of the support has been for girls and about 20% of the support for boys).

If you wish to have further information on these projects, please feel free to contact any member of the Board.
