Overview (2025-2026)
For the 2025-2026 academic year beginning in July 2025, KEY International has funded scholarships for 2,625 low-income children from fifteen schools in Chennai. Each of these children has received an average scholarship of about $53 this year, which covers a substantial portion of their annual tuition fees. The total funding from KEY International this year for all these children was about $139,000 (approximately Indian Rupees INR 12,500,000). Details of the 15 schools are given in the webpage www.keyinternational.org under the tab 2025 Projects.
The principal and teachers at each school (with approval) have selected the children based on their academic performance and their low-income status. Twenty-five children from each class starting the 6th grade to the 12th grade were selected for a total of 175 students in each of the 13 schools. The students must maintain a minimum level of academic performance (equivalent to maintaining an average 'B' in the US) to continue receiving the scholarship till they finish their high school.
Key International acknowledges the help of Dr. Koen van Rompay, (the founder of www.sayaha.org) in facilitating the awarding of the scholarships. These scholarships will help the students complete their high school, enabling them to lead more fulfilling and productive lives. All these children receiving scholarships come from families whose average family monthly income is less than about $200.
The web page www.keyinternational.org, has details of the projects for the previous years. The CPR Foundation (cprafoundation.org) will continue to monitor the progress of the children from eight schools, and each of the remaining five schools will be monitored by the DMS Trust and CHILD organization (in Chennai, India) respectively.

2021 Projects Overview
In the 2021-2022 academic year, KEY International navigated the complex challenges of the global pandemic to maintain its scholarship commitments. We successfully supported 2,150 students across our partner network in Chennai, ensuring that financial barriers did not lead to school dropouts during these critical times. The total funding provided during this cycle amounted to approximately $115,000, covering tuition, uniforms, and digital learning assistance where needed.
The impact of these scholarships extended beyond individual students to their entire families, many of whom faced significant income loss during 2021. By maintaining our strict academic requirement (maintaining a 'B' average), we ensured that the scholarships continued to reach motivated students who are poised to become the first in their families to complete high school and pursue professional degrees.
Supported Schools (2021–2022)

2020 Project Overview
The 2020-2021 academic year represents a landmark period of resilience for Key International. In response to the global health crisis, our organization deepened its commitment to educational equity, providing scholarships for 1,850 children from fifteen partner schools in Chennai. Total funding for the year reached approximately $81,000, ensuring that students from families with an average monthly income below $180 remained enrolled despite severe economic disruptions.
Scholarships were carefully awarded to students from grades 6 through 12 who demonstrated academic merit and significant financial need. Key International maintained its rigorous standard requiring students to achieve at least a ‘B’ average to continue their eligibility. This ensured that our support functioned as a powerful incentive for students to persist in their studies even as local school formats shifted to remote environments.
We are grateful for the support of monitoring partners like the DMS Trust and the CPR Foundation, whose field work was essential for verifying records and distributing scholarship payments during periods of restricted mobility. These efforts helped prevent many students from dropping out, securing their progress toward secondary school completion and more fulfilling vocational futures.
